About Save A Family Plan:
Save a Family Plan is a 4-star charity with High demonstrated impact. It has a B+ Results Reporting grade, which is above average. Its overhead costs are within Ci’s reasonable range. Founded in 1965, Save a Family Plan (SAFP) supports families and communities in poverty in India. The charity runs two programs: Family Development and Community Development. It spent $2.7m on its programs in the fiscal year ending in March (F2024).
Family Development received 74% ($2.0m) of program spending in F2024. The program supports families for six years through donors' donations of $25 per month. The families must meet certain criteria to take part in the program, such as having a child under the age of 13, a family member with a serious illness or disability, and they must be below the poverty line. The charity helps each family start a small business and coaches them in financial literacy during the six-year program. In F2024, it helped start 3,570 small businesses like tailoring centres, grocery shops, fish vending, and textiles.
Community Development received 26% ($713k) of program spending in F2024. The program has a few initiatives that support impoverished communities in India. The charity provided non-electric water filtration units to 500 families in F2024. SAFP provided 135 students with academic support. It runs a housing project that constructed 50 houses in F2024, each with at least 400 square feet. In an effort to improve the sanitation in rural India, the charity built 302 toilets. It runs a women’s empowerment project, which is a five-month program that teaches women sewing and tailoring.

The Family Development program has led over 50,000 families to become self-reliant.
All 60 women who took part in the women’s empowerment program graduated and started their own businesses. They earn around 6,000 rupees (around $95 CAD) per month.
