It is projected to have 641 additional rooms and is expected to have double the number of dialysis stations. The foundation reports that the new campus will add $2B to Ottawa’s economy during its construction. The campus is projected to be finished in 2029. Results and Impact
Ottawa Hospital Foundation states that the Ottawa Hospital’s research has had a $2B impact on Ottawa’s economy since 2001. In F2025, the foundation reported that Dr. Guillaume Martel’s clinical trial determined that if 10% of a patient’s blood is removed prior to liver surgery, then reinfused following, their need for costly blood transfusions is reduced by 50%.
In F2025, OHF reported that the Ottawa Hospital used a new epilepsy treatment technique, which can locate where a seizure starts, cause a disruption, and eliminate seizures up to 30% of the time with no further surgery required. The team is looking ahead to a new laser technology that might be able to eliminate seizures 60-75% of the time.
In F2025, the foundation reported that experts used a Canadian-first approach for a certain type of pediatric cancer and found a 20% relative reduction in radiation dose to the surrounding heart and lungs. The team used an Active Breathing Coordinator (ABC), a machine that reduces radiation exposure by coordinating the patient’s breaths with the radiation beam. OHF’s article states that standard radiation is delivered while the patient breathes, which means that the lungs and heart are irradiated indirectly. The charity stated that any reduction in radiation of healthy tissue impacts patient health 20-30 years down the road.
The charity is not yet rated on impact (n/r), this does not affect its star rating.
