Founded in 1982, Ronald McDonald House British Columbia and Yukon (RMHBY) provides a home away from home for sick children and their families across British Columbia and Yukon. RMHBY is one of twelve Ronald McDonald House chapters across Canada that help families of children that need to travel for treatment. RMHBY spent $4.9m on its programs in 2024. As of 2024, RMHBY’s second house, Willow House, is slated to open in 2028.
RMHBY’s Family Room is available for families who wish to stay near their child throughout the night at Surrey Memorial Hospital, free of charge. The Family Room has four sleeping rooms available for families with the most critical needs and cannot be booked in advanced. The charity stated that there were 15,784 drop-ins from families and caregivers, with 2,290 meals provided and 1,200 loads of laundry done in 2024. The charity reported that 79 families stayed overnight. As of 2025, the charity has expanded its Family Room model to Kamloops, located in Royal Inland Hospital.
